FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Grant Awarded by Colorado Health Foundation to Enhance Silver Key Senior Services

Colorado Springs, Colorado – Silver Key Senior Services is proud to announce that it has been selected as a recipient of a $400,000 grant from the Colorado Health Foundation. This substantial funding will be dedicated to the development of the Silver Key Apartments at South Murray, a crucial initiative aimed at offering a secure and dependable residence for numerous seniors who find themselves facing challenging circumstances. These apartments will undoubtedly serve as a lifeline for seniors in times of adversity, aligning with Silver Key's overarching mission to collaboratively uphold the well-being, dignity, and autonomy of seniors.

The forthcoming Silver Key Apartments at South Murray represents an important milestone as it marks the organization's second endeavor in senior housing, following the successful completion of the Silver Key Apartments at North Hancock – a 33-unit senior affordable housing project. With escalating living costs impacting seniors disproportionately, the significance of these apartments lies in providing an essential sense of security, ensuring that seniors have a sanctuary to turn to when confronted with uncertainties. This endeavor is not merely about physical accommodations; it's about empowering seniors to embrace their later years with self-respect, offering them a place to truly call home. Silver Key acknowledges that although the construction of new apartments is a commendable step, it represents only a fragment of the broader challenge in the community concerning housing accessibility. Consequently, Silver Key is actively collaborating with partners to explore solutions beyond physical infrastructure, encompassing home modifications, shared housing, and other innovative approaches.

The new Silver Key Apartments project at South Murray aims to furnish housing for 50 seniors, with a specific allocation of 13 units designated for older adult veterans. The transition to retirement can be a daunting experience for many seniors, often accompanied by diminishing capacity for daily tasks and potential barriers to remaining in the workforce. In such instances, financial constraints can severely limit available choices. Silver Key recognizes the urgency of providing dependable and economical housing options for seniors, an essential prerequisite for their overall well-being. Beyond housing, Silver Key also extends its support through transportation services, home-delivered meals, food pantry resources, companionship, access to healthcare resources, legal guidance, and information dissemination.

Silver Key serves as a lifeline for countless seniors, often being their first point of contact when grappling with challenges or seeking information regarding services catering to older adults in the Pikes Peak region. Individuals seeking assistance are encouraged to reach out to our dedicated Silver Line at 719.884.2300 or via email at info@silverkey.org to access a wealth of resources, services, and referrals.

A waitlist for the new Silver Key Apartments at South Murray is expected to be available in early 2025.
