Suspect Indicted for Attempted Murder

January 11, 2024

On July 2nd, 2023 officers were dispatched to a disturbance with a weapon in the area of SW Murdock Rd / SW Chesapeake Pl in Sherwood. Desmond Pitts, a 27-year-old Arizona resident visiting Sherwood, was driving his Ford F150 and became involved in a road rage incident with a 36-year-old man driving a Prius. During the incident, Mr. Pitts fired multiple rounds from his handgun, striking the Prius as it was driving away but not injuring the driver. Mr. Pitts told investigators that he had fired in self-defense as he believed the Prius was going to crash head-on into him.

On November 21, 2023, the case was presented to a Washington County Grand Jury and they indicted Mr. Pitts on the following charges:

  • Attempted Murder in the Second Degree – With a Firearm
  • Attempted Assault in the First Degree – With a Firearm
  • Unlawful Use of a Weapon – With a Firearm (2 counts)
  • Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree

Following the indictment, a Washington County Circuit Court Judge issued a Secret Indictment Arrest Warrant. On November 26th, 2023, Mr. Pitts was arrested by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office in Arizona and then later posted bail. On January 4, 2024, Mr. Pitts turned himself in at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

We would like to thank the Tualatin Police Department and the Washington County District Attorney’s Office for their assistance in this case. No additional information will be released at this time.
