Adult at Sherwood High School Arrested
May 8th, 2023
On 05/08/2023 at approximately 11:55am our Sherwood School Resource Officer was notified of an individual in Sherwood High School who was acting erratic and had no legitimate reason to be on campus. The adult entered the school front office area and was immediately addressed by school staff, but she did not comply.
The school was placed on lockdown by staff, out of an abundance of caution.
SRO Wolfer was on site and was immediately notified. SRO Wolfer made immediate contact of the adult who was near the front entrance commons area. The individual was asked to leave several times but refused. SRO Wolfer made a physical takedown, and the adult was detained in handcuffs. No other use of force devices were used. Since the adult continued to resist after being handcuffed, additional officers responded to the school to assist. Officers and staff conducted a walkthrough of the school and determined this individual was alone in their actions. The adult was taken outside and placed in a patrol car for the safety of all involved.
Officers believe the adult was experiencing a mental health crisis at the time of the incident and the Washington County Mental Health Response Team (MHRT) was called to assist. MHRT responded and based on their investigation, the adult was placed on a Director’s Hold. It was also determined the adult had a misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear related to Contempt of Court out of Washington County. The individual was trespassed from all Sherwood School District property related to this incident and has been transported to the hospital for further evaluation. Due to the mental health component, the adult’s information will not be released.
School Resource Officers work hard to ensure the safety of our children and we are grateful for the relationship that we have with the Sherwood School District. We would like to commend SRO Wolfer for his quick actions to resolve the situation, keeping students and staff safe. We would like to thank the following police agencies for their response to assist with the incident; Beaverton Police Department, Tualatin Police Department, Tigard Police Department, and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
