Update: Police Respond to Shooting in Sandy, One Male Deceased (Deceased Identified) - 05/22/20

Update:

After notifications to family, police can release the identity of the deceased from the May 21st, 2020 shooting in Sandy as Mr. Zachary Richard Saylor, age 27 of Canby. This continues to be an ongoing investigation with more details to be released at a later date.

5/21/2020 at 8:05 p.m.: On May 21st, 2020 at 5:11 p.m. officers from the Sandy Police Department were dispatched to a report of a shooting in the 15000 block of Bluff Rd. in Sandy, OR. There were multiple callers reporting that they witnessed a disturbance, followed by multiple shots fired.

Police arrived at 5:14 p.m. and secured the scene. One male, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The suspect, Mr. Joseph David Paul Anaya, age 26 of Sandy, was taken into custody without incident.

An associated individual left the scene in a vehicle and was quickly contacted by police, that individual was detained and is currently in police custody. There is no continued threat to the community.

Detectives are in the process of interviewing witnesses and involved parties. We will release more information as it becomes available.

The Sandy Police Department was assisted at the scene by personnel from the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office, Clackamas County Major Crimes Team, and Oregon State Police.

5/21/2020 at 6:05 p.m.: Police activity in the area of Bluff Rd. in Sandy, OR; Bluff Rd. will be closed between Bell St. and Green Mountain St. for an extended period of time. Please avoid the area as police investigate. A more detailed press release will be forthcoming.
