A little after 11:30AM today, officers from the Sandy Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious device at a thrift store at 37201 Highway 26, in Sandy. An alert employee of that business called 911, and isolated the device. Officers responded, and observed what appeared to be a realistic looking explosive device. A perimeter was set up, and the Portland Metro Explosive Device Unit was called. After they arrived, they analyzed the device, and concluded that while realistic appearing, it was inert and harmless.
The hoax device was taken as evidence, and the Sandy Police are asking for any information from anyone who may have dropped off the device, even innocently, as a donation to the business. Please call the Sandy Police Tip Line at 503-489-2195 with any information.
In this case, the employee did what we hope all people will do in these types of situations. If you see a suspicious package or device, leave it alone. Clear people out of the immediate area, and call 911.
