Man Arrested After Barricading Himself in Motorhome
SALEM, Ore. -- On November 5, 2026, Salem Police arrested Josh Kalani Cuifici, 29, of Salem, after he barricaded himself inside a motorhome in a business parking lot in the 1200 block of Lancaster Drive SE.
Earlier in the day, the business asked the motorhome’s driver to leave. When he refused, the business contacted a private towing company. The driver then barricaded himself inside the motorhome, and officers were called to the scene at 5:37 p.m. Officers identified Cuifici and learned he had felony warrants for multiple charges, including burglary, criminal mischief, reckless burning and criminal trespass.
Officers negotiated with Cuifici for more than an hour and advised him he had warrants for his arrest. During negotiations, Cuifici was seen using a knife to stab cushions inside the motorhome. He also broke several windows and threw glass objects at officers. He threw a ceramic mug that struck Salem Police K9 Andor in the head. Fortunately, K9 Andor was not injured.
Officers used less-lethal means to try to get Cuifici to comply with their directions. Cuifici later exited the motorhome through a rear window, climbed onto its roof and then jumped onto a patrol car before running onto a vehicle parked nearby. Officers again used less-lethal means in attempts to gain compliance from Cuifici. He was finally taken into custody with assistance from K9 Rupert. The incident damaged the patrol car and the parked vehicle.
Cuifici was arrested on the felony warrants and additional charges, including Attempted Assault on a Public Safety Officer (two counts), Attempted Assault on a Law Enforcement Animal and Criminal Mischief in the First Degree (two counts).
The investigation is ongoing. Further inquiries about the criminal prosecution should be directed to the Marion County District Attorney’s Office.
