Bicyclist Dies After Crash At 25th Street And State Street - 11/01/26

Bicyclist Dies After Crash at 25th Street and State Street

 

SALEM, Ore. -- A 56-year-old Salem man died after a collision with a vehicle at 25th Street SE and State Street on October 31.

 

At about 3:05 p.m., officers responded to a vehicle-versus-bicycle crash. A 23-year-old driver stopped at a red light while traveling northbound on 25th Street and began turning right onto eastbound State Street. Dean Edward Butcher, 56, of Salem, was riding westbound on State Street when his bicycle came into contact with the car’s left front corner. He fell and was taken to a hospital with serious injuries and later succumbed to his injuries.

 

The investigation is ongoing. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Next of kin have been notified. This marks the seventh fatal traffic crash investigated by Salem Police in 2026, resulting in seven deaths.
