Woman Arrested After Apartment Fire in Northeast Salem

SALEM, Ore. -- Salem Police arrested Saydee Villalpando, 27, of Salem, following an apartment fire Tuesday afternoon in the 700 block of Winter Street NE.

On September 29, 2026, at approximately 12:32 p.m., Salem Fire Department responded to a structure fire at Capital Mall Apartments. The fire was suppressed before it spread to neighboring units, but the apartment sustained extensive damage.

Salem Police Felony Crimes Unit detectives responded as part of the ongoing investigation. Detectives worked with Salem Fire Department deputy fire marshals to determine the cause of the fire. As a result of the investigation, Villalpando, a resident of the apartment, was taken into custody without incident and was later lodged at the Marion County Jail on charges of Arson in the First Degree and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.
