Annual toy drive in full swing
Donations accepted through December 13
Salem, Ore. — Less than a week is left before the close of the annual drive to collect toys for local children in need. The program which is spearheaded by the Salem Police Department Volunteer Services Section started collecting donations in November.
Now in its 35th year, the department’s volunteer coordinator Jennifer Hingston feels the same commitment and enthusiasm that launched the program in 1986. Said Hingston, “Presents have been steadily coming in, but we can always use more help.” Needed are new and unwrapped toys for children up to the age of 14 years. Donations of wrapping paper and tape are also needed.
“Toys will be accepted through December 13 and thanks to several local businesses, we have collection sites all over town to make it handy for anyone to find a drop-off location,” added Hingston. The collection sites include:
Toys can also be dropped off at the Salem Police Department, 333 Division ST NE.
For those who prefer the convenience of online shopping and direct delivery, a toy wish list is available through Amazon at https://bit.ly/2021-spd-toy-drive.
“We appreciate all the generosity we have received so far,” concluded Hingston. “Thanks to Salem residents there will be lots of smiles this holiday season on the faces our community’s kids in need.”
