Suspect Robert Smith turned himself into the jail last night. He had reportedly seen media coverage that he was wanted and surrendered himself at the Marion County Correctional Facility.
He was charged with multiple counts of theft and is due to appear in Marion County Circuit Court today at 3:00 pm.

Salem Police detectives are seeking assistance from the public in locating a suspect in a series of thefts from residences and vehicles in south Salem on the morning of January 14.
Three different families on Martin Ct S in Salem awoke on the morning of January 14 to find their vehicles broken into overnight and several items stolen. Among the stolen property was an ATV and the trailer in which it was sitting.
One of the victims had previously installed a surveillance camera, and a review of footage from the camera showed a white male adult and a female driving up to the residence and gaining entry into the vehicle of one of the victims. There was a relatively clear image of the male suspect, and one of the victims posted his photo on social media.
The investigating officer was contacted by several people who had seen the photo of the suspect, identifying him as 34-year old Christopher Robert Smith. Smith is a transient with possible ties to Salem and the northern end of the Willamette Valley. The officer did further investigative work on the case, and now has probable cause to arrest Smith for several counts of Theft, Unauthorized Entry Into a Motor Vehicle, and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. The female is yet to be identified.
Anyone with knowledge as to the whereabouts of Smith and/or has information as to the identity of the female suspect is asked to contact the Salem Police Department. A photo of Smith is attached.
