News Release
Salem Health Foundation opens scholarship applications for 2023-24 - 03/13/23

Education funding for the future of health care

(Salem, Ore. – March 13, 2023) – Salem Health Foundation has opened scholarship applications for 2023-24, aimed at supporting members of our community who are pursuing a degree in the health care field. The scholarship program is funded by Salem Health Foundation, Salem Health West Valley Foundation and the Salem Health Volunteer Services Projects Committee. Applications are due by March 31, 2023.

Scholarship applications are now being accepted for funds which are available to employees, volunteers, and community members living in Marion and Polk counties who are pursuing careers in health care professions. Both hospital Foundation boards recognize the importance of increasing the community of healthcare providers who play vital roles in our lives. As well, the Foundations understand that scholarships are often one of the only ways students can continue their education.

A past scholarship award recipient shared her story of the difference this award made in her education. Sukhman Kaur, who received a Foundation scholarship in 2022, said, “I was a student volunteer at the Salem Hospital site and learned about the scholarship through the volunteer services staff. My studies at the University of Washington were made possible by the scholarship. I'm a general biology major and currently a pre-med student, and I am thankful that I had the chance to volunteer at the hospital since it gave me a small glimpse into the medical field. The University of Washington's out-of-state tuition can be pretty expensive, so the scholarship helped me begin my fall quarter more easily.”

Applications will be accepted through the Salem Hospital Foundation Scholarship portal through March 312023, for the academic year 2023-24. Awards are subject to the number of qualified applicants and will not exceed $2,500 per applicant. Access to the portal, application forms, and further information are available on the Salem Health Foundation's scholarships page (https:/salemhealthfoundation.org).

The Foundation scholarship program has awarded nearly $3.5 million in scholarship funds since it began in 1968. In addition, the Salem Health Volunteer Services Projects Committee has a 25-year history of supporting students.

The Salem Health Foundation, established in 1968 as a charitable, tax-exempt organization, works to improve the community's health. The Foundation's 12 volunteer directors help raise funds and manage the assets of the Foundation while distributing its resources according to donor intent.
