Beach & Riverside Cleanup On The Oregon Coast: Coastal Communities Invited To Take Action This September (Photo) - 09/10/26
Portland, Ore., September 10, 2026 – SOLVE’s annual Beach & Riverside Cleanup is bringing volunteers together along the Oregon Coast and across Oregon and Southwest Washington from September 18–27. Coastal communities in six Oregon counties will have opportunities to clean up beaches and coastal areas, with the majority of coastal events taking place on International Coastal Cleanup Day, September 19.
International Coastal Cleanup Day brings communities around the world together to remove litter and marine debris from coastlines and waterways. By taking part locally, Oregon volunteers can help protect the beaches, waterways and coastal communities they know and love.
Featured Beach & Riverside Cleanup Events on the Oregon Coast:
Mile MeetUp, Paddle, & Clean Up at the Salmon River
Otis | September 19, 9 am–1 pm
Join River Sea Ranger Ken Sund and Oregon Shores for a paddle on the Salmon River followed by a guided walk and cleanup along the Salmon River South Spit. The family-friendly event is part of Oregon Shores’ Coast Watch Adopt-a-Mile Program and is open to participants with their own kayaks or other watercraft.
Wreck of the Peter Iredale Beach Cleanup
Warrenton | September 19, 10 am–12 pm
SOLVE, Fort George Brewery and Oregon Shores are teaming up for a community cleanup at Peter Iredale Beach in Fort Stevens State Park. Volunteers will remove consumer waste, marine debris and micro-trash along one of the coast’s most recognizable stretches of shoreline.
Sand Lake Beach & Riverside Cleanup
Pacific City | September 19, 10 am – 1 pm
Volunteers of all ages are invited to join this family-friendly cleanup at Sand Lake, helping remove litter from the beach and surrounding area.
Netarts/Oceanside Fall Beach Cleanup
Netarts | September 19, 12 pm – 2 pm
Friends of Netarts Bay WEBS and Oceanside Action Partnership are bringing the community together for a fall beach cleanup, with volunteers able to start at either The Schooner Restaurant or the upper parking lot at Oceanside Beach.
Beach Cleanup at Horsefall OHV Staging Area
North Bend | September 19, 10 am–1 pm
Willamette Valley Wheelers, in partnership with PNW4WDA Region 6, will bring off-road enthusiasts, families and community members together to remove litter and marine debris from Horsfall Beach Road and surrounding recreation areas.
Clean Up Sitka Sedge State Natural Area
Cloverdale | September 21, 10 am –1 pm
Volunteers will clean trails and sandy beaches within the Snowy Plover Management Area at Sitka Sedge State Natural Area. With nesting season ending just before the event, the cleanup offers an opportunity to remove marine debris that has accumulated throughout the spring and summer while helping protect habitat for wildlife.
National Public Lands Day at Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area
Newport | September 26, 9 am – 3 pm
Celebrate National Public Lands Day with the Yaquina Head team through a variety of volunteer projects, including a beach cleanup, invasive plant removal and garden maintenance. The event will also celebrate the Bureau of Land Management’s 80th birthday with local partners and community activities.
National Public Lands Day Siltcoos Beach Cleanup for Snowy Plovers
Florence | September 26, 10 am – 12 pm
The U.S. Forest Service and SOLVE are teaming up for a beach cleanup at Siltcoos Beach Day Use Area, a critical nesting area for western snowy plovers. Volunteers will learn about the threatened shorebirds before heading onto the beach to remove litter and marine debris.
Paws for Nature – Gold Beach
Gold Beach | September 26, 11 am – 1 pm
This community-focused cleanup combines a beach walk and dog-friendly cleanup. Volunteers can bring their pups, help remove litter along the coast or simply enjoy a day outdoors while supporting cleaner habitat for people, pets and wildlife.
Experience the Elk
Elk River | September 26, 9 am – 2 pm
The Curry Soil and Water Conservation District invites volunteers to bike along the Elk River from the Elk River Salmon Hatchery to Butler Bar Campground while picking up litter along the way. Participants can bring their own bike or reserve an e-bike, then return to the hatchery for a free lunch and community celebration.
