News Release
Scappoose Fire District and Oregon Department of Forestry responds to Alder Creek Fire - 09/11/21

Saturday, September 11th at 2:50 PM, Scappoose Fire District with the assistance of the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF), Vernonia Fire District (VFD), and Columbia River Fire & Rescue (CRFR) are responding to a wildfire that is approximately 30+ acres.  The fire is located in a forested area 4 miles northwest of Alder Creek Rd. in the Bunker Hill area within ODF jurisdiction. At this time, no homes are threatened.  Scappoose Fire District asks the public to avoid the area to facilitate emergency response operations.

Fire response is made up of Scappoose Volunteer and Career firefighters.  Scappoose Fire and ODF assumed unified command.  ODF responded with 3 engines and two crews from South Fork to help with fire control.  SRFD responded with 1 engine, 3 wildland engines, and 2 water tenders.  CRFR responded with a water tender and a wildland brush engine. Vernonia Fire District responded with a brush engine. A helicopter from the Washington Department of Natural Resources is on scene assisting with fire control at the head of the fire. An additional helicopter has been dispatched from Redmond, Oregon, to assist with fire suppression. Currently, the fire is 15% contained, burning toward the southeast.

At this time, there is no information on the cause of the fire.
