On February 9, 2018 at approximately 1:18 AM, Roseburg Police, with K9 Axel responded to a traffic stop on Interstate 5 near mile post 132 southbound. A Sutherlin Police Department Officer stopped 23 year old Nickolas Kaisershot and was attempting to arrest him for a crime when Kaisershot resisted arrest and assaulted the officer resulting in injury to the officer. Kaisershot fled on foot from the scene. A subsequent tracking effort by RPD K9 Axel led officers to a large berry patch where they located the suspect hiding. Kaisershot kept his arms concealed and would not comply with verbal commands, so K9 Axel was sent in to remove the suspect from the berry patch. Kaisershot was removed from his hiding place and taken into custody.
