At 8:36 p.m. on December 18, 2025, firefighters responded to a reported structure fire at 1135 W. Brown Avenue. Firefighters arrived on scene to find a single-family residential structure, with heavy smoke showing from both the first and second floors at the rear portion of the structure.
Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed residents of the home had already evacuated the structure. Firefighters found the fire to be contained to a bathroom within the structure. Heavy smoke was found throughout the home. Firefighters conducted a primary search, completed ventilation of the home, and rescued two cats from the second floor of the residential structure.
The single-family residence sustained smoke damage only. The cause of the fire was due to an overloaded multi-plug adapter. No injuries were sustained due to the fire. Thirteen firefighters assisted with firefighting operations. Other agencies assisting with the fire included Central Douglas Fire & Rescue, Avista Utilities, Pacific Power and Umpqua Valley Ambulance.
The Roseburg Fire Department would like to remind residents of the following fire prevention tips to avoid overloading a multi-plug adapter in a residential home:
• Use certified products (UL approved)
• Never plug high-power appliances into a multi-plug (e.g., space heaters, microwaves, air conditioners, hair dryers)
• One high-watt device per wall outlet, plugged directly into the wall
• If the plug or strip feels warm, hot, or smells, unplug it immediately
