July 17, 2026-REDMOND, OR- At approximately 4:30pm today Redmond Fire & Rescue was alerted to a brush fire in the Dry Canyon on the east side, west of NW Canyon Dr between NW Hemlock and NW Ivy.  First arriving crews reported 1/2 acre fire with a rapid rate of spread and fire spotting at the head of the fire. Due to the rapid spread of the fire up the canyon wall Redmond Police put a Level e evacuation in place for homes along NW Canyon Dr from Black Butte to Maple and a Level 2 evacuation for homes along the west side of the Dry Canyon. The Dry Canyon was closed from the Fir staircase to the Maple bridge.

Due to the rapid spread of the fire from the increased winds, the incident commander upgraded the call to a third alarm to

bring in additional resources for structural protection.

The fire progressed into the backyards of two homes along NW Canyon Dr and damaged an out building and and ADU. One property had an excessive fuel load in the backyard and required the use of a mini excavator to remove the fuel to ensure full extinguishment.

Forward progress of the fire has been stopped at this time and fire crews will be remaining on scene extinguishing hot spots.

There were no reported injuries to homeowners or fire crews.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
