Red Cross Opens New Blood Donor Facility In Wood Village - 08/16/23
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
All Red Cross blood donation services, including blood and platelet donations, will be accepted at this new facility
WOOD VILLAGE, Ore., (August 16, 2023) – The American Red Cross is pleased to announce the Cascades Region is adding a new Fixed Site Donor Center in the Portland/Vancouver metro area.
The new Wood Village donor center officially opens on August 21st, 2023, and will service donors in eastern Multnomah County and the surrounding area.
“Every two seconds, someone in this country needs blood. This new center will provide easier access for our blood donors in Eastern Multnomah County and the surrounding area, and will help us better serve our community,” says Angel Montes, Red Cross Regional Donor Services Executive.
The generosity of blood donors in the Cascades Region is well known. With more than 182,000 units collected in Oregon and Washington each year, our donors are incredibly dedicated to our mission. It’s because of this commitment to helping save lives that our region has the unique ability to support the blood needs of 65 hospitals locally and other hospitals across the country.
The Wood Village donor center will also allow for platelet donations. Platelets are the clotting portion of blood and nearly half of all donated platelets go to cancer patients. We are pleased to be able to offer a new location for donors to help ensure those relying on lifesaving transfusions receive the care they need.
Donating blood and platelets is essential to community health, and volunteer donors are the only source of blood for those in need. By making an appointment to give blood or platelets at this new location, donors can help ensure a readily available blood supply.
This new donor center in Wood Village is an addition to our existing blood collection efforts. All current donor centers in the region will remain open.
We want to extend our deepest thanks to the donors in this region who understand the importance of giving blood and the need for a new fixed site to help make that happen.
We encourage all eligible donors to make an appointment to give. Donation appointments can be made for the coming days and weeks by downloading the free Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or enabling the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device.
