Only New Schools In Reynolds School District Delayed One Day - 08/31/18
Reynolds School District is excited to welcome back most students for the start of school on Tuesday, September 4, 2018. Three of our schools will have a slight delay and start on Wednesday, September 5, 2018. Fairview Elementary, Troutdale Elementary, and Wilkes Elementary Schools are brand new buildings and construction have been on-time and on-budget for the entire project. The last of the furniture deliveries for the schools are arriving Labor Day weekend and workers are quickly moving desks, chairs, and shelves into classrooms for the anticipation of students in their brand new school next week.
"Our construction teams have done an incredible job getting the new buildings completed and have been great partners with the District," said Rachel Hopper, Deputy CEO and Bond Project Manager for Reynolds School District. "We never had any doubt that building construction would be completed by the time school starts and the construction teams pulled through," she continued. Moving back into the schools has proven a bit more difficult to predict. During recent walkthroughs of the new sites and talks with teachers, it was found that many teachers and staff were not yet able to fully prepare their classes due to unforeseeable delays in some furniture deliveries. After careful discussion with administrators and staff, the District decided that it was in the best interest of the students and teachers to delay the start date for those schools by one day to Wednesday, September 5.
"We have very committed and compassionate teachers and staff that felt strongly that one more day would ensure students would be coming into a safe, clean, and learning-ready environment," Ms. Hopper said. "At Reynolds School District, the wellbeing of our students and staff is our top priority and we want the kids coming into their new school on the first day to feel comfortable and ready to get the year started. This extra day of preparation allows us the opportunity to make sure our teachers can catch their breath, put the finishing touches on their learning spaces, and open the doors with confidence."
All other schools within Reynolds School District will be starting on time on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, including Reynolds High School which also recently finished significant renovations and additions. The three new elementary schools, renovation and addition to the high school, and new security upgrades at all schools were part of the successful bond passed by voters in 2015.
