Superintendent Search: Interview Candidates Announced
The Reynolds School District Board has narrowed the field of applicants for the Superintendent position being vacated by the current Superintendent, Dr. Linda Florence, who is retiring at the end of the 2017-18 school year. There was a total of 33 applicants from 17 different states who applied for the upcoming position. Executive recruitment consultants McPherson & Jacobson, LLC conducted initial screening and interviewing to tighten the pool to eight highly qualified candidates who were asked to present short video interview answers. After reviewing videos and application packets, the pool was further narrowed to four candidates selected for interview by the board during a special executive session on Wednesday, April 4, 2018.
Interview candidates will be invited to visit Reynolds School District for an intensive interview process during the week of April 9-13. One candidate will be interviewed each of four days during that week and will be expected to interview directly with the board and meet various stakeholder groups throughout the day including a Community Member “Meet the Candidate” Forum at 10am each day on April 9, 10, 12, and 13 at the Reynolds Professional Development Center – Edgefield, Building A, 2408 SW Halsey St., Troutdale, OR.
The following candidates were selected for consideration and have agreed to interview for the position (by order of interview date):

Mr. Frank Caropelo, Jr.: Mr. Caropelo is an internal candidate and is currently Assistant Superintendent of Reynolds School District since July 2015. He holds a master’s degree in Multicultural Education from California State University Sacramento, a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and Education from Vassar College in New York, and is currently completing a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Concordia University Chicago. Previous to working with the Reynolds School District, he was Vice President of Education Policy for Chalkboard Project in Portland, OR, Assistant Superintendent for Greater Albany Public Schools, ELL Program Coordinator for North Santiam School District where he was also a third grade teacher, and fifth grade teacher in San Juan Unified School District in Sacramento, CA. Mr. Anthony (Tony) Mann: Mr. Mann is currently the Superintendent of Schools for Molalla River School District in Molalla, OR. He holds a master’s degree in Teaching and Educational Leadership from Lewis & Clark College in Oregon and a bachelor’s degree in English from Oregon State University. Previous to working with the Molalla River School District, he was Assistant Superintendent at Reynolds School District, Principal at Walt Morey Middle School in Fairview, OR, Principal and Assistant Principal at Dunway Middle School in McMinville, OR, and a teacher of language arts and social studies at Fowler Middle School in Tigard, OR. The community is invited to meet Mr. Mann at 10am on Tuesday, April 10 at the Professional Development Center – Edgefield, Building A, 248 SW Halsey St., Troutdale, OR.

Dr. Danna Diaz: Dr. Diaz is currently the Superintendent of Schools for San Juan Island School District in Friday Harbor, WA. She holds a doctoral degree in Education Administration from University of Texas, a master’s degree in Pre-School Education from University of Houston, and a bachelor’s degree from University of Marcy Hardin-Baylor. Previous to working with San Juan Islands School District, she was Assistant Superintendent of El Paso Independent School District, Director of Student Engagement at Fort Worth Independent School District, Regional Superintendent of the School District of Philadelphia, and Statewide Technical Assistance Provider and Education Specialist at Dallas Independent School District. She also was Elementary Principal in Round Rock, TX, District Bilingual Coordinator in La Porte, TX, and bilingual elementary teacher in Houston, TX and Pasadena, CA. Ms. Lisa Riggs: Ms. Riggs is currently the Associate Superintendent/Chief Academic Officer for San Antonio Independent School District in Texas. She holds a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from University of Victoria B.C., Canada, a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Seattle City University, and bachelor’s degree in English and Education from Washington State University. She has previously worked as the Senior Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction at San Antonio Independent School District, Principal for Gifted and Talented Education Elementary, Middle, and High School Magnets, Director of Gifted and Talented Education Programming, and Director of University of Nevada Reno Learning Resource Center and Library Media Services for Washoe County School District. She also served as Middle School Library Media Specialist and 7th-8th grade Language Arts and Writing Instructor.
