PORTLAND, Ore. –September 18, 2018— REACH Community Development officially opens the third and final phase of affordable apartment development at Orenco Station in Hillsboro.  REACH is partnering with the Yes for Affordable Housing campaign and PGE Renewable Development Fund to celebrate the grand opening on Wednesday, September 19 starting at 3pm at 6616 NE Cherry Dr., Hillsboro.  Wells Fargo Vice President and Community Affairs Officer, Andrew Tweedie, and Chabre Vickers, Community Development Officer will be in attendance to present a check to the Yes for Affordable Housing campaign.

The grand opening event is cohosted with Yes for Affordable Housing campaign.  The coalition is supporting Measure 102 and Measure 26-199, two affordable housing ballot measures that will ensure safe, affordable housing for more working families, seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities throughout our region. The joint event provides an opportunity to show the public an example of the kind of affordable housing the Metro regional bond could support.

“We are excited to celebrate with the housing campaign the opening of REACH’s third and final phase of Orchards at Orenco, providing much needed affordable homes for families in Hillsboro. This phased development took nearly ten years to complete,” said REACH CEO, Dan Valliere.  “With added funds from the Metro regional bond, we’ll be able to build more homes like this, and help meet the need much quicker.”

Orchards at Orenco III fulfills the need for family housing in the Orenco Station neighborhood. The property offers 52 units of affordable housing, including 33 two-bedroom units and 19 three bedroom units. Eight units will have Project Based Section 8 vouchers targeted to households earning 30% of Median Family Income ($24,420 for a family of four) or less. The balance of the remaining units will be targeted to households earning 45% MFI ($36,630 for family of four) or less on average.

Where the first two phases focused on energy efficient design through Passive House certification, Phase III incorporates energy efficient design elements and is pursuing Earth Advantaged certification.  The property also includes a solar array, made possible by PGE’s Green Futuresm participants through their Renewable Development Fund.  Visit www.portlandgeneral.com/rdf for more information about the program

Funding for Orchards III was provided by Community Housing Fund, Energy Trust of Oregon, Network for Oregon Affordable Housing (NOAH), NeighborWorks® America, Oregon Housing and Community Services, PGE Renewable Development Fund, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Washington County Office of Community Development, and Wells Fargo.
