DATE: 09-22-2025

INCIDENT TYPE: Armed Subject Taken Into Custody

DATE AND TIME OF INCIDENT: September 20th at about 11:30 A.M.

LOCATION OF INCIDENT: NW 9th Street / NW Ewen Street

Narrative:

On September 20, 2025, at about 11:30 a.m., officers and deputies responded to reports of shots fired in the 500 block of NW 9th Street. Callers to 911 reported that several rounds had been fired into an occupied apartment building.

Upon arrival, officers encountered an adult male, identified as Francisco Nunez (29), of Prineville, armed with both a large knife and a pistol, which were holstered. Officers made repeated attempts to de-escalate the situation through verbal communication. When the Nunez refused to comply, officers deployed less-lethal options, including bean bag rounds and a Taser. These measures proved ineffective in gaining compliance.

Nunez moved westbound on NW 9th Street, where officers and deputies worked to contain him and limit the risk to the public. He eventually stopped near the intersection of NW 9th Street and NW Harwood Street. Officers coordinated their efforts and were able to approach and take him into custody.

Nunez sustained minor injuries during the arrest and was provided medical treatment before being lodged in the Crook County Jail. He is facing charges of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Recklessly Endangering Another (x3), Menacing, Pointing a Firearm at Another, Criminal Mischief 2, and Resisting Arrest.

No community members sustained serious injuries, although one person was exposed to broken glass and received a minor injury. The incident remains under investigation.

The Prineville Police Department would like to thank the Crook County Sheriff's Office, the Oregon State Police, and the City of Prineville Public Works Department for their assistance.
