Traffic Advisory: Southeast 17th Avenue Reopen To Traffic After Speedy Main Repair (Photo) - 07/21/26
Crews worked into the evening to locate and fix a crack in a water main
PORTLAND, OR – Traffic on Southeast 17th Avenue is back to normal after a speedy repair briefly closed the street.
Monday afternoon, PBOT responded to reports of a sinkhole. Attempts to excavate revealed a nearby water leak, sending the Portland Water Bureau into action. Portland Water Bureau crews worked quickly to locate the source of the leak. They found a quarter-inch crack in an 8-inch cast iron water main installed in 1927, which crews were able to repair and bring back online.
Southeast 17th Avenue has reopened to traffic in both directions between Southeast Holgate Boulevard and Southeast Center Street.
Portland water bureau is grateful to the public for their patience and is sending a huge thank you to the crews who worked into the evening to repair the leak, and re-open the street.
