Portland Fruit Tree Project Celebrates MLK Day with Community Work Party at Sabin Orchard
PORTLAND, OR - 1.15.23
The Portland Fruit Tree Project (PFTP) invites the community to join us in commemorating Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a family friendly day of service at the Sabin Community Orchard. PFTP is organizing a work party to bring neighbors together in contributing to the health and vibrancy of the beloved orchard, which is located in the right of way in the historic Sabin Neighborhood.
Volunteers of all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate. The day's activities will include essential tasks such as pruning, weeding, mulching, and the creation of kaolin clay-dipped bags for spring orchard care. This event is a wonderful opportunity for community members to learn new skills and contribute to the neighborhood's resilience while fostering connections with fellow Portlanders.
Details of the MLK Day Work Party:
Participants are not required to bring their own tools as all necessary equipment will be provided. We encourage volunteers to dress appropriately for outdoor activities (check the weather!). If folx do bring their own tools, we encourage them to label them.
Thanks to the generous support of our local sponsor, Henry Higgins Boiled Bagels and Black Rock Coffee, participants will enjoy complimentary Coffee and Bagels and Schmear during the event.
"We believe in the power of community-driven initiatives, and this MLK Day, we invite everyone to join us in taking tangible actions that contribute to the well-being of this orchard and, by extension, our community," said Tara Eberlin Pohlman, Harvest Manager at PFTP.
