Portland Fruit Tree Project Kicks off Harvest Season with a Call for Fruit Tree Registration
Portland, OR - June 27, 2023 - The Portland Fruit Tree Project (PFTP) is excited to announce the commencement of another fruitful harvest season. As the trees flourish and the fruit ripens, PFTP invites residents of Portland and its surrounding areas to register their fruit trees for the community harvest.
PFTP has been dedicated to fostering community resilience and food security since its establishment in 2006. By connecting fruit tree owners with volunteers, they aim to harvest surplus fruits that might otherwise go to waste and distribute them among individuals and families who face barriers to accessing fresh, healthy produce.
By registering their fruit trees, Portland residents contribute to the sustainable food movement while actively reducing food waste. Whether you have an apple tree, a cherry tree, or any other fruit or nut bearing tree/shrub/vine, PFTP welcomes all to join these efforts.
The registration process is simple and accessible to all. Interested individuals can visit the PFTP website at www.portlandfruit.org/harvest and fill out the online registration form. The form includes essential details such as tree location, fruit variety, and estimated harvest time. Once registered, PFTP's dedicated team of staff and volunteers will coordinate the harvest, ensuring that no fruit goes to waste.
"Each year, we are inspired by the enthusiasm and generosity of our community as they come together to share the abundance of fresh fruits," said Heather Keisler Fornes, Executive Director of Portland Fruit Tree Project. "Registering your fruit trees not only supports local food security efforts but also encourages a stronger sense of community and connection."
Over the past years, PFTP has successfully harvested and distributed tens of thousands of pounds of fresh, nutritious fruit to those in need. The organization aims to build on its previous accomplishments and invites residents, both tree owners and volunteers, to join hands in this year's harvest season.
