Portland Business Alliance board of directors endorses Portland Children's Levy; Levy renewal continues focus on child development and educational programs - 03/13/18

Portland, Ore. -- Today, the Portland Business Alliance board of directors announced its endorsement of the Portland Children's Levy for the May 2018 ballot.

The levy generates $18 million each year for child development and educational programs. If passed, the levy renews at its existing rate through a property tax of $0.4026 per $1,000 of assessed value.

"We understand how essential early learning and child development is to the achievement of students throughout their education, particularly graduating high school," said Sandra McDonough, president and CEO of the Portland Business Alliance. "Since 2002, the Children's Levy has supported the programs that allow for those achievements across Portland. It is critical that we continue to support the levy so future students have the access to education that they deserve."

Alliance board endorsements are based on a process that includes candidate questionnaires and interviews conducted by its endorsement committee, followed by a vote by the full board. Two-thirds of the board members present must agree before an endorsement is made.
