Prescribed burn taking place at Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station

PETERSON SPACE FORCE BASE, Colo. – The Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station fire department will be conducting prescribed pile burns, Nov. 8 - 9, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., on the CMSFS installation.

The purpose of these burns is to reduce overall vegetative fuel load within native areas and improve overall forest health and resiliency.

The potential for light smoke may be visible, however, the public should not be alarmed or call 911 to report a fire. All safety protocols are in place and the burns are performed in a controlled environment.

No piles will be ignited after 2:00 p.m. however, flames and smoke will likely be visible for 24-48 hours after ignition.

CMSFS, an installation supported by Space Base Delta 1, hosts multiple Department of Defense missions and serves as NORAD and USNORTHCOM's Alternate Command Center and as a training site for crew qualification.
