Schriever SFB Marks 25th Anniversary - 06/19/23
Media are invited to the Schriever Space Force Base 25th anniversary event at 9 a.m. June 21.
Guest speakers will include Col. David Hanson, Space Base Delta 1 commander, Lt. Col. Michael Schriever, grandson of Gen. Bernard Schriever, and his brother Bernard Schriever. Gen. Schriever is credited with being the architect of the Air Force's ballistic missile and military space program. As part of the ceremony, officials will install a time capsule marking the occasion.
Groundbreaking for what was originally Falcon Air Force Station took place in May 1983. In June 1998, Falcon Air Force Base was renamed Schriever AFB in honor of Gen. Schriever.
Today Schriever SFB, part of Space Base Delta 1, is home to Space Deltas 6, 8, 9 and 15, Joint Task Force – Space Defense, the Missile Defense Integration and Operations Center and others, and is responsible for the command and control of scores of Department of Defense warning, navigational and communications satellites.
