PeaceHealth St. John receives regional recognition for exemplary heart care - 07/27/20

The Foundation for Health Care Quality has awarded PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center with their COAP Performance Recognition honor.

This achievement is given to hospitals based on key quality indicators relating to life-threatening heart care needs, including heart attack and non-emergent interventional procedures.

“I am proud we are being recognized for our exemplary work,” said Shaun Ageno MD, Medical Director for Cardiology at PeaceHealth St. John. “Not every community our size has the benefit of access to the quality of cardiovascular care we deliver in this community. Our talented team is deeply committed to providing the best cardiac care.”

The foundation’s Cardiac Care Outcomes Assessment Program (COAP) identifies hospitals that perform at or better than the regional average in key quality indicators. The COAP quality metrics are:

  • Percentage of STEMIs with door-to-balloon times
less than or equal to 90 minutes
  • Radial-access PCI in patients with STEMI
  • Cardiogenic shock
  • Bleeding events within 72 hours
  • Blood transfusion
  • Emergency CABG
  • Acute kidney injury
  • Median contrast volume

According to COAP, PeaceHealth St. John performed at or better than the regional average in seven of these eight quality metrics. For details please visit COAP online at www.coap.org.
