PeaceHealth Rides Launch Party set for April 19 (Photo) - 04/11/18

(Eugene, Ore.)— Eugene is about to get a lot more bike-friendly—and that’s an excellent reason to throw a party!

Next Thursday, April 19, a fleet of 300 sturdy blue bicycles will roll onto city streets with the official launch of PeaceHealth Rides, Eugene’s first rental bike share program. Title sponsor PeaceHealth and its program partners—JUMP Bikes, the city of Eugene, Lane Transit District and the University of Oregon—invite the whole community to join the celebration.

• When: Thursday, April 19, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

• Where: Eugene Water & Electric Board River Edge Public Plaza, 500 E. Fourth Ave.

• Details: The event will feature music by Samba Ja and Divisi, food trucks, cycling safety/trails information, giveaways and speakers from PeaceHealth Rides partners and the Eugene cycling community. Anyone 18 and older is welcome to try out one of the new PeaceHealth Rides bicycles! Please bring your helmet if possible—although we’ll have a limited number of extras on hand.

With 300 city-owned bikes and 35 stations in the downtown, University of Oregon and Whiteaker areas, PeaceHealth Rides offers an active, healthy and green transportation option to Eugene residents and visitors. For a modest charge—$1 for 15 minutes or $15 a month for most users—riders can pick up and drop off bicycles for one-way trips across the city. Though bicycles can be locked to any existing bike rack within the system area, PeaceHealth Rides stations are conveniently placed near high-traffic businesses, restaurants, health-care facilities, parks and other popular destinations.

PeaceHealth Rides will have one station in Springfield, too—at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend.
