The Parkrose Board of Education of School District No. 3, Multnomah County, Oregon is seeking candidates to fill a vacant seat on the Board. - 07/15/24

Application for Appointment to Parkrose School District Board of Education

Qualifications: The Board appointee must be a legally registered voter, a resident within the district for one year immediately preceding the appointment and may not be an employee of the district. -Policy BBE

Term: Position #5 term of office running through June 30, 2025.

Compensation: This is an unpaid volunteer position. Training is provided. 

Recommended Practice: School Board Members are discouraged from holding office in any school-based volunteer organizations (e.g. parent groups or site council) while also serving on the board.

Time Commitment: The board meets on the second and fourth Monday of each month from 6:00pm to 9:30pm at the district office. In addition, 2-4 budget meetings are held on Wednesday evenings in the Spring.

Duties: The school board serves the community by setting district policy, mission and goals. Board members approve the district budget; evaluate progress toward annual goals; guide collective bargaining; and evaluate the superintendent. The superintendent manages the staff who put board policies into practice. A board member must be a skilled decision-maker and team player, a public-education advocate, policy maker, and a vital link between community and school.

Application Deadline: Applications must be submitted to the District Administrative Office no later than 4:00 p.m. on Monday, September 2nd, 2024. Applications may be submitted online, or a paper copy may be requested at the District Administration Office located at 10636 N.E. Prescott St., Portland.

Interview Date: Interviews will be held in-person during the Monday, September 9th, 2024 School Board Meeting at the District Administration Office at 6:30pm. Qualified applicants to be interviewed will have their application and video recorded interviews posted as public information on our website.

Agenda items include, but are not limited to: Board elections for Chair and Vice Chair, many Consent Agenda items most of which are organizational authorizations, designations and rates information required each year in July. They will discuss a board vacancy for position #5 and hear an update regarding the Local Option Levy.
