Speelyai Bay Park to close due to low water levels, seawall replacement
ARIEL, Wash. (October 22, 2026) — Due to dry conditions and low water levels, the Speelyai Bay Park boat launch will be closing beginning Monday, October 26. The picnic area at Speelyai Bay Park was closed on October 8 to begin construction to replace the seawall. With the picnic area closed through April 2027 and the boat ramp closed due to low water, Speelyai Bay Park will be completely closed beginning Monday, October 26 until further notice.
Each fall, PacifiCorp is required to maintain certain water flows downstream of Merwin Dam to support spawning salmon. To meet the flow requirements under the current conditions, supplemental water must come from PacifiCorp’s project reservoirs. As a result, the Merwin reservoir will be drawn down below boat ramp operational levels. PacifiCorp expects that once seasonal rain significantly increases inflows to the reservoirs, reservoir elevations will allow the reopening of Speelyai Bay Park and boat ramp.
Unfortunately, if dry conditions continue to persist, other recreation impacts may be observed at Yale Park. For updates, please visit our Washington website.
