PacifiCorp customers see early savings from new regional energy market 

Extended Day-Ahead Market helps lower costs, strengthen reliability and make better use of energy resources 

 

PORTLAND, Ore. (July 30, 2026) — PacifiCorp customers are already seeing financial savings from the West’s newest regional energy market, the Extended Day-Ahead Market. Since its launch on May 1, EDAM has delivered $5.42 million in gross benefits to the company and its customers, according to the latest Western Energy Markets Quarterly Benefits Report. 

 

Launched by the California Independent System Operator in partnership with PacifiCorp, EDAM allows participating utilities to plan energy needs and purchases a day in advance and coordinate across the broader Western grid. By identifying lower-cost energy resources before they are needed, the market helps participants improve efficiency, reliability and support affordability for customers. 

 

“The early benefits of EDAM demonstrate the power of regional collaboration to deliver real value for customers,” said Mike Wilding, vice president of energy supply management at PacifiCorp. “Built on years of cooperation across the West, EDAM enhances our ability to use existing resources more effectively, strengthen reliability and help keep energy affordable for the customers we serve.” 

 

The latest Western Energy Markets Quarterly Benefits Report estimates $11.38 million in total gross EDAM benefits across participants in the second quarter of 2026. The report also highlights the continued value of the Western Energy Imbalance Market, which delivered approximately $459.71 million in gross market benefits across its footprint during the quarter, including $43.49 million for PacifiCorp. 

 

EDAM builds on the proven foundation of WEIM, which has helped PacifiCorp generate more than $1.2 billion in benefits for customers since the company joined the market at its launch in 2014.  

 

As more utilities join EDAM, PacifiCorp expects the market to deliver even greater value by expanding access to lower-cost energy, improving coordination across the West and helping ensure customers continue to receive reliable service at the lowest reasonable cost.
