Metropolitan Performing Arts Main Stage Presents Bare: A Pop Opera (Photo) - 05/02/23

VANCOUVER, WA:  Following the life of a group of students at a Catholic boarding school, this powerful Pop Opera deals with heavy topics and teenaged kids looking for healing and answers as they grapple with issues of sexuality, identity, and the future. Peter, an altar boy, and Jason, a popular athlete, have fallen in love with each other, but Jason fears losing his status if he is discovered to be gay. Unpopular Nadia, Jason’s sister, is disdainful of Ivy, a beautiful girl with a questionable reputation. As the group attempts to put up a production of Romeo and Juliet, tensions flare, self-doubt surfaces, and the right path seems more difficult to find than ever.

“This show has everything! Sex, drugs, rock and roll, teenage angst with a bonus of Queer bent Shakespeare!” said Bryce Briton, Director. “So, sit back, enjoy the music, and think how this story could have ended differently with a bit more…I’ll leave that for you to decide. The next time a child is brave enough to show you their true selves, remember the story of Jason and Peter and understand that it’s not about your right or wrong, it’s about a life and simply see.”

Starring Oliver Finch as Jason McConnell, Freddie Masteller as Peter Simonds, Blake Elizabeth as Ivy Robinson, Eileen Leyva as Nadia McConnell, and Jonathon Royse as Matt Lloyd with direction by Bryce Briton, Choreography by Shannon Jung, Musical Direction by Alex Trull and Intimacy Choreography by Amanda Von Epps; this show promises to be an emotional ride to take with us into our own lives.

**Content Advisory: Not intended for young audiences - minimum suggested age 16. Note for parents: Younger audience members are welcome with parental consent. Please know that "BARE'' includes sensuous dancing, coarse humor, and depictions of alcohol & drug use. With the growing number of opiate deaths in the United States, we feel these are important topics for community discussion. Please decide if you are ready to discuss these topics with your student.
