Portland, OR (August 14, 2026) – Point West Credit Union is proud to announce that CEO Amy Nelson has been elected Chair of the Credit Union Advisory Council at the National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors (NASCUS) for the 2026-2027 term.
The election was announced during the NASCUS Annual Meeting at the 2026 State System Summit in Philadelphia. The Credit Union Advisory Council is made up of credit union leaders from across the country and serves as an important voice for state-chartered credit unions, advising the NASCUS Regulator Board on issues that impact the credit union movement.
As Chair, Nelson will help guide discussions between credit union leaders and state regulators, strengthening collaboration and supporting the continued success of the state-chartered credit union system.
“This opportunity is both an honor and a responsibility,” said Nelson. “Credit unions exist to serve people, and collaboration has always been one of our greatest strengths. I look forward to working alongside credit union leaders and regulators from across the country to support a strong state system that continues to create opportunity, expand access, and meet the evolving needs of our communities.”
Nelson has spent more than two decades in credit unions. Throughout her career, she has been a passionate advocate for financial inclusion, cooperative principles, and expanding access to safe and affordable financial services for underserved communities.
Under Nelson’s leadership, Point West has continued to deepen its commitment to community impact through initiatives focused on financial empowerment, small business support, housing stability, and culturally responsive services. The credit union's nationally recognized Juntos Avanzamos designation reflects its dedication to serving Hispanic and immigrant communities and ensuring that everyone has access to trusted financial resources.
“Amy’s leadership extends far beyond Point West,” said Board Chair Oscar Porras. “She understands the challenges and opportunities facing credit unions today and never loses sight of the people we ultimately serve. Her election reflects the respect she has earned throughout the industry, and we are excited to see her help shape conversations that will strengthen credit unions across the country.”
The NASCUS Credit Union Advisory Council provides insight and perspective from credit union leaders nationwide, helping ensure that the state regulatory system remains responsive, collaborative, and effective in supporting member-owned financial cooperatives.
