News Release
CORRECTION: AIR QUALITY IMPACTS: Portland Parks & Recreation activities update for Tuesday, August 14, 2018, 3:30pm - 08/14/18

The closing time for Peninsula Pool tonight is 5:30pm (now reflected correctly below), and not 7pm. We regret the error.

The Dive-In Movie showing of Toy Story at Pier Pool is going on as planned; the pool opens at 7:30pm; the movie starts at about 8:15. Great way to cool off and enjoy a great flick on our outdoor big screen.

AIR QUALITY UPDATE FOR PP&R

UPDATED MONDAY, AUGUST 14, 2018

3:30PM

  • Peninsula Pool will close at 5:30pm tonight (after swim lessons) due to a temporary lack of staffing.

While the closure of Peninsula Pool is NOT related to air quality PP&R will continue to monitor conditions, and will communicate any further actions around the other scheduled showings this week - and any other postponements or cancellations impacting our programs, activities, and offerings.

At this time, all other PP&R recreation programs are currently being held as planned. However, due to the adverse air quality in the Portland metro area, activities scheduled for outdoors are being moved indoors where feasible. For all organized PP&R camps, classes and other activities, Portland Parks & Recreation staff are taking care to ensure that exertion is minimized, particularly for children and the elderly, and anyone with identified respiratory issues.

If air quality moves into the “Very Unhealthy” range, as determined by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and Oregon Health Authority (OHA), Portland Parks & Recreation may potentially cancel or postpone some activities. Changes will be posted on the Inclement Weather page and other portlandparks.org sites, on Facebook.com/PortlandParks, on Twitter @PDXParksandRec, and sent to local media outlets. For information from the Environmental Protection Agency on air quality, visit the EPA’s Airnow.gov page for Portland at this link.
