Media Advisory: Healthcare, Political Leaders Will Address Abortion Access Crisis - 05/12/22

Healthcare and political leaders will be available at a press conference Saturday, May 14th in Eugene to discuss the Bans Off Our Bodies National Day of Action. The press conference will take place at 2:30pm at Wayne Morse Federal Courthouse, 405 E. Eighth Ave.

It will be followed by a rally at 3pm at University of Oregon’s Erb Memorial Union, 1395 University St. Similar rallies will take place in communities across the state and nation.

Last week a leaked draft of the majority Supreme Court opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization confirms the court is prepared to overturn Roe v. Wade and eliminate the constitutional right to an abortion. This decision would likely lead 26 states to swiftly move to ban abortion, leaving 36 million people who can get pregnant without access to safe, legal abortion.

The list of speakers, which is subject to change, includes:

  • Labor Commissioner Val Hoyle
  • State Senator James I. Manning Jr.
  • State Representative Julie Fahey
  • Abortion providers and patients
