Portland General Electric Outage Update: Restoring Customer Power As Quickly As Safety Allows -01/14/21

Portland, Ore. Jan. 14, 2021 – Portland General Electric crews continue to push as quickly as safety allows to restore power for customers still affected by the January 12 storm. Strong wind and rain knocked down trees and tree limbs late Tuesday and early Wednesday, causing extensive equipment damage and power outages for about 95,000 customers. Crews have worked continuously since then to bring most back online, and are working to restore service to about 8,900 customers still affected as of 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Crews will work around the clock throughout PGE’s service area until everyone is reconnected. Many of the remaining outages are in locations that are remote or difficult to access, however, so PGE estimates the restoration effort may last into the weekend for some customers. Current expectations to complete repairs include:

• Customers in the central and western parts of PGE’s service area (Portland, Hillsboro, Beaverton, Tigard, Lake Oswego, Wilsonville, Newberg and surrounding areas) by midnight, Thursday, January 14.
• Customers in the southern part of PGE’s service area (Salem, Keizer, Aurora and surrounding areas) and in Oregon City, Molalla, Colton and surrounding areas by late afternoon, Friday, January 15.
• Customers located in the eastern part of PGE’s service area (Gresham, Sandy, the Mt. Hood corridor, and surrounding areas) by midnight, Saturday, January 16.

Crews continue to work in each area and will bring individual customers and neighborhoods online as soon as repairs can be completed. Customers who are without power can visit portlandgeneral.com/outages for periodic updates on estimated restoration times.
