Hillsboro's Largest Electric Vehicle Fast Charging Station Opens May 18 (Photo) -05/16/19

Join PGE President and CEO Maria Pope and Hillsboro Mayor Steve Callaway for this Saturday’s grand opening of the newest Electric Avenue charging station

WHAT: Portland General Electric and the City of Hillsboro will host the grand opening of the Hillsboro Electric Avenue charging station, with support from organizations including BTCPower, Chargeway, Forth, Greenlots, Green Mountain Energy and Waterhouse Motors.

PGE and the City of Hillsboro partnered to build the Hillsboro Electric Avenue in support of Hillsboro’s 2035 Community Plan and Environmental Sustainability Plan, as well as PGE’s Transportation Electrification Plan, which are designed to help electrify the transportation sector and accelerate Oregon’s transition to a clean energy future.

Hillsboro Electric Avenue expands PGE’s public charging network to three locations, with four additional locations planned for construction later this year. All charging stations in the Electric Avenue network are powered by 100% renewable energy to support sustainable transportation options.

These community charging stations will feature six chargers, including four fast chargers, allowing up to six electric cars to charge simultaneously. A standard charge fee is $3, and a fast charge costs $5. Customers can also choose a $25 monthly subscription to use all Electric Avenue locations.

The grand opening will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the opportunity to test-drive electric vehicles. The event is free and family-friendly, with kids’ activities and live music.

WHEN: Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony begins at 10 a.m., with opening remarks from Hillsboro Mayor Steve Callaway, Rep. Janeen Sollman, City Councilor Kyle Allen and PGE President and CEO Maria Pope. The ride-and-drive portion of the event starts after the ceremony.

WHERE: Sunset Esplanade Shopping Center — 2235 SE Tualatin Valley Highway in Hillsboro — off Southeast Tualatin Valley Highway and Southeast Cypress Street.

Strategically located in a high-traffic area, near popular retailers, this Electric Avenue gives the community convenient access to electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

WHY: Transportation is the largest source of carbon emissions in Oregon, making an electrified transportation system critical to the state’s carbon-free future. This grand opening celebrates our collaborative effort to reduce the effects of climate change by supporting electric vehicle adoption and expanding access to reliable electric vehicle charging stations.
