PF&R Crews Respond to Wildland Fire on I205S in Area of Exit 22/I84E (Photo) - 08/08/21

At 10:56 am this morning, PF&R crews were dispatched to a reported wildland fire on I205 southbound in the area of Exit 22/I84E. Upon arrival, crews found grass and trees burning in an approximately 100 by 1000 foot area on the embankment next to I205S. For the safety of crews working next to the freeway, the two right lanes of I205S were shut down at NE Killingsworth St. for the duration of firefighting operations.

Multiple crews working off of 8 fire apparatus (supervised by two battalion chiefs) worked quickly in a coordinated effort to extinguish all flanks of the fire on the I205S embankment before it could threaten the neighborhood above it. Crews were also assigned to the neighborhood above the embankment on NE Prescott St. to ensure the fire had not extended above the embankment and found no fire threat to the neighborhood. Because of the light wind conditions, embers from the fire did not make it over the concrete barrier on top of the embankment.

There were no structures involved, no injuries, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
