10th Annual Portland Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge

Climb for the Cure for Cystic Fibrosis

 

WHAT

 

Firefighters from Portland and the entire state will join with firefighters from across the country as well as firefighters from New Zealand, Chile, Mexico and Canada to compete in the 10th annual Portland Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge. As many as 450 firefighters will race up the 40 floors of the U.S. Bancorp Tower, in downtown Portland in full firefighting gear. Each firefighter is climbing to raise awareness for the fight against Cystic Fibrosis. The climbers with the best time wins the challenge and awards will also be given to the firefighters that raise the most in donations.

 

WHO

 

Retired Portland Firefighter Wes Loucks received many emergency calls for help during his 32 years of service for the Fire Bureau and the people of Portland. After retiring Wes received a personal call for help from his own family. His two grandsons were born with Cystic Fibrosis, a chronic genetic disease impacting a child's lung and digestive system and shortening their lives. Wes is now calling on his friends, firefighters and community to help raise money for research that will lead to a cure.Video and pictures plus last years event can be found at www.portlandstairclimb.com

 

WHY

 

To help raise awareness and donations for the Oregon Chapter of Cystic Fibrosis. Last year the event raised more than $160,000 and to date has raised over one million dollars. Sponsors include Portland Firefighters Association, MSA, Leatherman, Servpro, Firehouse Subs and many others.

 

WHEN

 

Sunday, September 23rd, at 9 AM, Media will be escorted inside the building to get pictures/video of the race, interview climbers and see family and friends cheering on their favorite climbers. Please contact Wes Loucks for an escort into the race area.
