UPDATE: PF&R Responds to a 2nd Alarm Apartment Fire (8130 SE Main) - 01/10/18

This evening at 6:11 PM Portland Firefighters were called to an apartment fire at 8130 SE Main. When crews arrived they noted fire burning in two apartments. Firefighters entered the apartments to search for trapped victims and to extinguish the fire. Firefighters found a teenage male unconscious in one of the apartments. The young man was transported to the Legacy Oregon Burn Center with life threatening injuries.

Finding and caring for the victim created a need for additional personnel and was a trigger for fire commanders to call for a second alarm. The fire was knocked down within approximately 30 minutes and Portland Fire Investigators arrived on scene to determine what caused it. This fire necessitated the closure of 82nd Avenue for a block in each direction around Main St.

Investigators are still working. Cause and damage determinations haven't been released yet. PF&R won't be providing any additional updates on the victim due to his age and to protect patient privacy. This includes his identity. This release will be updated with information on cause and damage when it's available.

UPDATE 1/10/18: Investigators are still working to determine the fire cause. They have completed the scene investigation but are still conducting follow-up interviews of occupants and witnesses.

PF&R will not be releasing any further updates on the condition of the fire victim rescued from this fire to protect patient privacy concerns.
