MEDIA ADVISORY: September 10 – The Grand Opening Of Legin Commons: 124 New Affordable Homes In SE Portland - 08/26/26

SOUTHEAST PORTLAND, Ore. -- Join Our Just Future, Portland Community College, APANO, and Edlen & Company, for the grand opening celebration of Legin Commons, a new affordable housing community in Southeast Portland. This public event marks a major milestone in the creation of 124 new affordable homes in one of Portland’s most diverse neighborhoods. 

Legin Commons is a partnership between Portland Community College, Our Just Future, and APANO, and reflects a strong collaboration among community-based organizations, public agencies, and educational institutions. The project will deliver deeply affordable housing and includes resident amenities designed to support resilience and wellbeing, along with community-oriented gathering spaces. Designed by Bora Architecture and built by LMC Construction, the building is being developed with a high-performance, net-zero ready design approach, aligning with Portland’s climate and sustainability goals. 

The affordable housing community includes solar and battery storage technology that increases the sustainability of the project and reduce tenant utility use. In turn, these cost savings will be passed on to future residents. This project has been made possible by customers participating in Portland General Electric’s Green FutureSM program through the PGE Renewable Development Fund. 

The project was made possible by a mix of private and public funding, including $3.8 million from the Portland Clean Energy Community Benefits Fund (PCEF) and $1.7 million from the voter-approved Metro Affordable Housing Bond, both awarded by the Portland Housing Bureau, and a $250,000 grant from Metro’s Transit-Oriented Development program, which supports affordable housing located near high-frequency public transit.
