Portland Community College To Host Diesel Day -05/02/23

Media are invited to cover area middle- and high school students sampling the latest in diesel service technology with great photo opportunities on Thursday, May 4

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Diesel Service Technology Program’s annual Diesel Day is set for the expansive Rock Creek Campus diesel shop on Thursday, May 4 with local companies on hand to demo the newest, high-tech equipment and heavy-duty trucks. Reps are leading informative career workshops for the estimated 500 students who have been invited to attend.
 

Hands-on learning sessions will be offered for students who wish to find out what today’s well-paid diesel technicians do in the field.
 

WHAT: College staff, students, partners and community members will be present for remarks and these sessions: 

  • Engine disassembly
  • Fuel System Testing
  • Bobcat Skid Steer Operation
  • Electrical Component Troubleshooting
  • Industry information sessions
  • BBQ lunch, door prizes and much more
     

WHO: Dr. Adrien Bennings, PCC President; Steve Callaway, Hillsboro Mayor; Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici; and Russ Dunnington, Faculty Department Chair, PCC Diesel Service Technology

WHEN: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, May 4.

WHERE: PCC’s Rock Creek Campus (17705 NW Springville Rd). Follow the signs to Building 2, Room 117. Rock Creek Campus map. Free Parking in Lot A by Building 1.

WHY: PCC Diesel Service students and industry representatives attest to the importance of 

the college’s training program and the great paying jobs that await after graduation. Students can perform hands-on learning with heavy equipment and see the newest medium and heavy-duty trucks and talk with many employers from Daimler, Peterson CAT, Pape Equipment and Truck, Fed EX, Power Systems West and more.
