Sept. 26, 2018 - Salem, Ore. – A Baker City woman won $75,000 playing a Scratch-it after purchasing it to cheer up her boyfriend.
RoxAnne Ferguson and her boyfriend Ken Hackett were at the Shell Station on Highway 7, when Ken told her he was having a bad day. To cheer him up, she purchased some Scratch-its they could play together.
“We were in a hurry, so we just scanned it and it said $75,000!” she said. “We did a double take. Then scanned it again. Everyone in the store got excited and we bought stuff for the people in line behind us!”
The couple then went and got a black and yellow 4-wheeler for Hackett – the same colors as his favorite football team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“We might even get married now that I have a dowry!” Ferguson said.
“Yeah, you are a sugar momma now!” Hackett chuckled as the couple claimed the prize.
The couple’s luck continued as they won an additional $120 on a few Scratch-its they purchased while in the lobby of the Salem claim center.
“Guess it’s just our week!” Ferguson said.
During the 2015-17 biennium in Baker County, where Ferguson lives and the Fletcher Sinclair Shell station she purchased the ticket are located, more than $4.5 million in Oregon Lottery proceeds were directed to economic development, parks, education and watershed enhancement.
Lottery officials recommend that you always sign the back of your tickets with each Oregon Lottery game you play, to ensure you can claim any prize you may win. In the event of winning a jackpot, players should consult with a trusted financial planner or similar professional to develop a plan for their winnings. Prize winners of more than $50,000 should contact the Lottery office to schedule an appointment to claim their prize.
Since the Oregon Lottery began selling tickets on April 25, 1985, it has earned more than $11 billion for economic development, public education, state parks and watershed enhancements. For more information on the Oregon Lottery visit www.oregonlottery.org
