New Oregon State Geologist Appointed - 02/01/22

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Governing Board of the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGAMI) has appointed Dr. Ruarri Day-Stirrat as the State Geologist and Agency Executive Director.

Dr. Day-Stirrat was selected from a pool of highly qualified candidates identified through a national search and public selection process. He comes to DOGAMI with a mix of academic, state geological survey, and industry experience. “The Governing Board is pleased to have Dr. Day-Stirrat as DOGAMI’s next Executive Director and we look forward to working with him” says Governing Board Chair Laura Maffei.

As the State Geologist and Executive Director of DOGAMI, Dr. Day-Stirrat will lead a staff of 34 in overseeing the state’s mineral production and developing maps, reports, and data to help Oregon manage natural resources and prepare for natural hazards. The Governing Board, agency staff, partners, and stakeholders welcome Dr. Day-Stirrat and thank Sarah Lewis for serving as interim director during the search process. Lewis will continue to lead DOGAMI’s Mineral Land Regulation & Reclamation program.

Dr. Ruarri Day-Stirrat will start his new role with DOGAMI on April 1, 2022.
