OSP Fish & Wildlife Seeking Public Assistance Identifying The Person(s) Responsible For Shooting A Spike Elk -- Yamhill County  (Photo) - 11/09/21

On October 29, 2021, an OSP F&W Trooper out of McMinnville received a report of a spike elk that appeared to have lost the use of its back legs. The elk was located on private property at the end of Dodson Road northwest of the city of Yamhill. The elk was put down and upon being processed it was determined the elk had been shot through the spine by a rifle. On October 29 in the Trask Unit, there were no open bull elk tags, but there are available cow hunts. The elk was dispatched, processed, and donated to needy families through the Grand Ronde Tribe.

The Oregon State Police is requesting public assistance with information about this case. The Oregon Hunters Association TIP reward offers preference points or cash rewards for information leading to an arrest or issuance of a citation for the unlawful take/possession or waste of Bighorn Sheep, Rocky Mountain Goat, Moose, Elk, Deer, Antelope, Bear, Cougar, Wolf, Upland Birds, Waterfowl, Furbearers, Game Fish and Shellfish. Cash rewards can also be awarded for turning in people who destroy habitat, illegally obtain licenses/tags, and for the unlawful lending/borrowing of big game tags.
