UPDATE #3- Officer Involved Shooting Investigation - Marion County - 05/19/21
The 17 year old victim was pronounced deceased at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital on May 19, 2021.
Peden is scheduled to be arraigned on indictment Thursday, May 21, 2021 at the Marion County Circuit Court Annex.

Yesterday’s officer involved shooting incident began at approximately 4:45 P.M., when Gervais Police Department responded to a disturbance in the 1000 block of Depot Ct. in Gervais. Upon arrival they located Arik Reed (22) of Gervais with a gunshot wound. Reed was transported to Salem Hospital. Officers were able to determine that Kenneth Peden III had kidnapped a 17 year old female after the shooting and left the area in a Ford F-150.
An attempt to locate was broadcast to all Marion County law enforcement and, shortly afterward, a Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy located the pickup occupied by Peden and the female kidnap victim. Peden fled from law enforcement when they attempted to stop his vehicle. The pursuit continued to Hwy 214 at about mile post 37, where the officer involved shooting event reported yesterday occurred.
OSP is/has been assisted by Gervais Police Department, Mt. Angel Police Department, Woodburn Police Department, Salem Police Department, Keizer Police Department, Silverton Fire Department, ODOT and the Marion County District Attorney’s Office.

Deputy Ron Cereghino, Marion County Sheriff's Office, 23 years in law enforcement.
Officer J.J. Lamoreaux, Silverton Police Department, 14 years in law enforcement.
Officer Braden Anderson, Silverton Police Department, 1 year in law enforcement.
The male driver of the F-150, Kenneth Williams Peden III (20) of Woodburn, was arrested and lodged at the Marion County jail on the following charges:
1. Attempted Murder in the First Degree with a Firearm
2. Attempted Murder in the Second Degree with a Firearm
3. Unlawful Use of a Weapon with a Firearm
4. Kidnapping in the First Degree
5. Fleeing and Attempting to Elude by Vehicle

On Wednesday, on May 12, 2021, law enforcement officers from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the Silverton Police Department became involved in a vehicle pursuit of a possible kidnapping suspect. While in pursuit of the white Ford F150, an occupant in the involved vehicle fired multiple rounds toward police as they traveled through the city of Silverton. The vehicle finally came to a stop on Highway 214 near Forest Ridge Road NE where the suspect exchanged gunfire with involved officers.
The male driver of the Ford F-150 was detained by law enforcement; the female passenger was transported by Life Flight from the scene with life threatening injuries. Multiple police vehicles were struck by gunfire during the incident, no law enforcement officers were injured.
A Marion County Sheriff’s Office Deputy and two Silverton Police Officers were involved in the shooting. Pursuant to Marion County Senate Bill 111 protocols, the Oregon State Police will be leading the investigation into the incident and the involved law enforcement officers will be placed on Administrative Leave.
