Free First Day Hike At Guy Talbot State Park Jan. 1, 2026 - 12/18/25

TROUTDALE, Ore. – The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) will host a free guided hike at Guy Talbot State Park on New Year’s Day, Thursday, Jan. 1.

OPRD is partnering with America’s State Parks for free guided First Day Hikes in state parks across Oregon on New Year’s Day.

Information about the hike hosted at Guy Talbot State Park:

  • Join us on a 0.4-mile hike on a paved/hardscape trail along the creek and underneath a historic 1914 bridge to the base of Lower Latourell Falls.
  • Weather permitting, rangers will host an outreach table at Guy Talbot Shelter. They will share facts about the area and distribute coffee. Visitors can choose to take a self-led hike or join a ranger-led hike to Lower Latourell Falls. Ranger hikes will be limited to groups of fewer than 15 people. If weather conditions make hiking unsafe, we will switch to hosting an outreach table at the Vista House at Crown Point, where we'll discuss the creation of the Gorge and the Vista House.
  • Meet at 9 a.m. Guy Talbot SP picnic shelter: 42746 NE Latourell Rd, Corbett, OR 97019
  • Trail has a slight elevation gain and minor obstacles like root heaves and un even terrain. The trail is not wheelchair friendly.
  • No dogs allowed in the Vista House.
  • Participants should dress in layers, be prepared for rain, wear walking or hiking shoes and bring water and snacks.
  • For more information call 503-695-2261.

If you have questions about access or to request any reasonable accommodations needed for your participation, please contact Park Ranger Elika Paki at 503-928-0077. Requests must be submitted at least three days prior to January 1.

All activities are free, but a day-use parking permit is required at the Vista House at Crown Point State Scenic Corridor. Permits cost $10 per day for Oregon Residents or $12 for non-residents; annual permits are also sold at the park.

First Day Hikes is a national initiative to welcome the coming year in the outdoors, promote exercise and encourage connecting with nature. The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department has participated since 2012.
