Two First Day Hikes At L.L. Stub Stewart State Park Jan. 1, 2025 (Photo) - 12/20/24

BUXTON, Ore. – The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) will host two free guided First Day Hikes at L.L. Stub Stewart State Park on New Year’s Day, Wednesday, Jan. 1.

OPRD is partnering with America’s State Parks for free guided First Day Hikes in state parks across Oregon on New Year’s Day.

Information about the two hikes at L.L. Stub Stewart State Park:

  • Join us for a New Year's guided hike at L.L. Stub Stewart State Park! Choose between a 3-mile hike at 10 a.m. or a 1.5-mile hike at 1 p.m.
  • Both hikes start at the Dairy Creek West Campground Loop Meeting Hall with ample parking at the nearby East Campground Loop. A short, paved path connects the parking to the shelter.
  • To reach Dairy Creek West Meeting Hall, drive up the main park entrance at 30380 NW Highway 47, Buxton, OR 97109, and park in the Dairy Creek East Campground Loop. Overnight camping is closed for winter, but Day-Use Parking is available during the day.
  • Accessible parking and paved pathways lead to the meeting hall, campground loops and restrooms. Some trail areas may be accessible with assistance. Contact park staff with accommodation needs or questions.
  • Leashed dogs are welcome. Please bring water for your companion. No bicycles on the hike.
  • Dress for the weather, wearing hiking boots or comfortable shoes with good traction. We will hike regardless of rain or snow, so bring warm, breathable clothes, gloves and a windbreaker or raincoat. Pack a water bottle and snacks, and feel free to bring your phone or camera for photo opportunities along the way.
  • For more information call 503-724-8429.

If you have questions about access or to request any reasonable accommodations needed for your participation in the hike at Stub Stewart State Park, please contact Park Ranger Hugh Davis at 503-724-8429. Requests must be submitted at least three days prior to January 1.

The day-use parking fee is waived that day for all state parks that require a parking permit and are open.
