Free First Day Hike At L. L. Stub Stewart State Park Jan. 1, 2023 -12/14/22
Vernonia, Ore. – The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) is partnering with America’s State Parks for free guided First Day Hikes in state parks on New Year’s Day, Sunday, Jan. 1.
Information about the hike at L. L. Stub Stewart State Park is below:
- Join a 2-mile hike on the Boomscooter Trail for great wildlife viewing opportunities.
- Meet at 10 a.m. at the Dairy Creek West Meeting Hall. Extra parking will be available in the Dairy Creek East Campground Loop.
- The hike is on a 2-4-foot-wide dirt path, with some paved sections. Moderate elevation gain. Suggested minimum age for children is 5.
- Leashed dogs are welcome.
- Dress in layers with rain gear and gloves, wear sturdy shoes and bring water and snacks, as well as a camera or binoculars for wildlife viewing.

The $5 day-use parking fee is waived that day for all state parks that require a parking permit and are open.
